Ce blog va s'intéresser à toute l'actualité de cette seconde catégorie, les Challengers, anti-chambre du tennis pro qui révêle les futures stars ou redonnent confiance aux stars en perte de vitesse.

Toutes les stars y sont passés à un ou plusieurs moments de leur carrière, Agassi, Federer, Nadal, Gasquet ou encore Djokovic.

The tennis men have the choice this week. 7 tournaments are opended, 6 are on clay.

Bordeaux welcomes 7 of the top 100 of the ATP tour among which we can quote a lot of French guys :
Fabrice Santoro, Florent Serra, Marc Gicquel and Arnaud Clément.

Younes El Aynaoui, after a good start on clay, will be part of the game.

Tournois du 5 au 11 mai 2008 - Winners

Tunica Resorts :

Ivan Miranda won the title against Ball 6/4 6/4.

Prosperita Open in Ostrava :

In a 100% Czech final, Vanek defeeated Hernych 6/3 4/6 6/1 to win his 11th Challenger titles, the first of the year.

Dresden :

Countryman Andreas Beck won the title against Korean Jun 2/6 6/3 7/5.

Rabat :

Brazilian Belucci won the title against Argentinian Vassalo Arguallo 6/2 6/2

Rijeka :

Chilean and Athens Olympic Gold Medalist Nicolas Massu won the title against Belgian Christophe Rochus 6/2 6/2.
The former 9 ranked player in the ATP won his sixth challenger title.

Telde :

Russian Gabashvili won the title against Spanish Andujar 6/4 4/6 6/1.
It is his second Challenger title in career.

Tunica Resorts :

The important fact to note is the Isner's defeat against Australian Carsten Ball in three tie-breaks.
Miranda is the last seed player remaining in the tournament.

The SF program :

- Ball vs Bemelmans

Prosperita Open in Ostrava :

The Czech players make honor to their tournament as they will be three in the SF. The last one, Dabul is Argentinian :
- Hernych vs Dabul
- Rool vs Vanek

NB: Younes El Aynaoui was defeated by Roumanian player Cruciat in straight sets.

Rabat Open in Morocco :

The final will have a South American taste as it will oppose 20-year-old Brazilian Bellucci to Argentinian Vassallo Arguello.
The first one defeated top seeded player Garcia Lopez.

H2H : Vassallo Arguello leads 1-0 against Bellucci

Dresden Open in Germany :

NB : Former N°5 ATP player (in 2004) player Rainer Schuettler will play the SF.
3 German players will be in the SF.

Rijeka Open in Croatia :

Important info : Athens Olympic single champion Nicolas Massu qualified for the SF after defeating Czech Pospisil 6/4 3/6 6/4.

Kimiko Date sur le retour

Je suis hors sujet avec cet article mais il me fait plaisir.

Kimiko Date, qui a annoncé son retour sur le circuit pro à l'âge de 37 ans, a fait sensation au tournoi ITF (on va dire que ce sont les challengers féminins) de Gifu, au Japon en atteignant la finale en simple et en gagnant le double avec une partenaire âgée de 16 ans.

Félicitations à Kimiko et bon courage pour la suite.

Tournois du 5 au 11 mai 2008

La saison sur terre battue a commencé depuis deux semaines.
Et cette semaine, les limiers de cette surface vont pouvoir s'en donner à coeur joie car pas moins de six tournois sont au programme :

- Tunica Resort 3 - 10 of May - 50 000$
- Ostrava en République Tchèque
- Rabat au Maroc
- Dresden en Allemagne
- Rijeka en Croatie
- Telde en Espagne

Je vous donnerai le programme de chacun de ces tournois très bientôt.

Pour vous mettre l'eau à la bouche, sachez que le prodige américain Donald Young est tête de série numéro 1 du tournoi Tunica Resorts.
Notons également la présence dans ce tournoi du géant John Isner.
